One of the most important changes in data privacy regulations is just around the corner: the EU General Data Protection Regulation becomes legally enforceable on May 25, 2018. Appodeal’s global team is committed to collaborating with our clients and partners, and to providing the most recent updates related to the GDPR.
The GDPR is aimed at strengthening and standardizing data privacy policy across EU nations. The regulation includes a list of new obligations and rules which we highly recommend our clients to consider, the earlier the better.
Please note that Appodeal is not authorized to providing any legal advice. All processes we’re currently implementing can be applied to your business as well, but we encourage you to address all GDPR-related inquiries to qualified legal professionals to make sure you're compliant before May, 25.
What is Appodeal working on at this moment?
We are implementing processes as needed to comply by this date. These processes include, but are not limited to:
- Transparency, verifiable consent, and preference management
We will unambiguously communicate what types of data are being used, and how we handle personal data in our upgraded privacy policy and ToS (terms of service). Each Appodeal client will be encouraged to agree to these new terms before we can process any personal data relating to them.
- Honoring data subject requests for access, correction, portability, and erasure
Each Appodeal client will be able to manage their data, as well as withdraw their consent as easily as giving it.
- Implementing data protection-by-design and data protection impact assessments for high-risk processing activities
We will plan and implement technical and organizational measures for ensuring that, by default, only personal data that is necessary for each specific purpose of the processing is processed. In addition, we’ll make sure that the amount of this data is limited and will not exceed the limits of Appodeal’s business needs.
Will Appodeal be a GDPR-compliant service for publishers and developers?
Yes. We’ll update our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We’ll ask our clients to accept these documents before to continuing working with Appodeal as usual.
In case Appodeal is compliant to the GDPR, will publishers and developers be considered to be GDPR-compliant automatically?
No. If you’re an app developer or publisher, in accordance with the GDPR rules you’re responsible for notifying the end-users that you’re using Appodeal or any other data collection-related SDK. Please contact qualified legal professionals to get more information and be ready for upcoming changes.
